10 Steps to Create Psyched-Up, Multicolor Halloween Backgrounds
Oct 5, 2009
1. Download this small ghost brush. 2. Double-click on the .abr file. This will open Photoshop. 3. Create a new document 2400 x 1400 px wide. 4. In the Tools Palette, click on the Brush Icon. 5. Open the Brushes Palette. The Ghost Brush will be the last item there. 6. Click on “Brush Tip Shape” to the left of the palette, and adjust the Spacing to 130%. Click on the “Create New Brush” icon, then name and save the brush. 7. Select black as your foreground color, press shift, and draw a horizontal line with the ghost brush. Include 10 ghosts in the row. 8. Use a round brush with a 2-px diameter, select white as your foreground color, and scribble freely on the row of ghosts to create a distressed effect. 9. Select the row with the Marquee tool. Click on the “Create New Brush” icon on the Brushes Palette, name and save the brush. Again, click on “Brush Tip Shape”, adjust the Spacing to 130, and name and save the brush one last time. 10. Color the background black, select the Brush tool (“b” on the keyboard), and select orange as your foreground color. Paint neatly for clean patterns. Paint in crazy swirls for a more grungy feel. Let the strokes to overlap – paint over areas you have already covered for maximum effect. Play around with the Color Dynamics and Angle Jitter in the Brushes Palette, too. I have had SO MUCH FUN making this cute and humorous group of ghosts! At first I made them as pure shapes, but then I saw how ghost-like they became when the shapes are defined by dotted lines. I included both styles in this set.
Here is a set of Halloween FREEBIES that I made last year. View the full pack.

Illustration Friday “Pattern”
Sep 26, 2009- Filed under: Brushes, Freebies, Scrapbooking, Shop
I was just developing a set of patterns yesterday, so the theme for Illustration Friday is perfect. With Halloween on my mind, I made this paper for scrapbookers or anyone who’s looking for something super magical.
The file is a very large jpg (12 x 12″, 300dpi, 11.7MB) and can be used in all versions of Photoshop.
| You can buy this paper for just $1.20! |
Talking about patterns, I am giving away FREE this set of my original Photoshop patterns, called “Extravagant”, to anyone who leaves a comment on this post.
OK, I’m loving this color theme and getting carried away with the spirit of Halloween!!!
Here’s a scratched-up, splattered-on, illuminated and bejewelled alpha for all my scrapbookers visitors. Make your layouts POP out at you! The x-height of each letter is around 300 px, so they are large enough for anything print-related, and also look great on screen. (The zip file is 8.5MB.)
| The alpha set costs only $1.99. |
